Los Osos Basin Well Database

Welcome to the Los Osos Basin Well Database

This database includes data related to water wells within the Los Osos Groundwater Basin, as compiled and mapped by Cleath-Harris Geologists (CHG) on behalf of the Los Osos Basin Management Committee (BMC). Please be advised that this database was prepared in January 2024.

The following data sources were used to develop location confidence for wells, compare and merge datasets and enter well information in the database:

1. Well Completion Reports (WCRs) from California Department of Water Resource (DWR) database
2. Well location database and WCR database from County of San Luis Obispo Environmental Health Services Department
3. CHG In-house GIS datasets, historical maps, reports, and studies
4. SLO County Flood Control and Water Conservation District (FCWCD) well location maps and well information sheets
5. LOBP, LOWRF, and County Water Level Monitoring Program well databases
6. Aerial imagery from various sources including Google Earth, NAIP and ESRI
7. Historical aerial imagery from UCSB’s Map and Imagery Library FrameFinder
8. GeoTracker on-line

Disclaimer

The well database is based on the best available historical data compiled from the sources identified above and may include wells that have been destroyed. All mapped well sites are approximations of the actual well site locations, regardless of the source (e.g., well permit application or permit, well completion report, site map) or format (e.g., GPS coordinates, APN, narrative description). Please be further advised that neither CHG nor the BMC can guarantee the accuracy of the information provided, including any information derived from the sources listed above.

Lastly, please note only redacted (personal information redacted) versions of well completion reports are made publicly available as required by Water Code Section 13752 as well as similarly redacted versions of well construction permit applications because the redacted versions are readily accessible in electronic format.

Well Database Access Instructions

The primary well database files are downloadable as compressed/zipped files and may need to be extracted to be analyzed. The database xlsx spreadsheet is located in "pdfs and spreadsheet" folder (_LosOsos_WellDatabase_v008.xlsx). All pdfs must be in the same folder as the xlsx spreadsheet for the dynamic link (File_Path) to open a pdf file when clicked. The "KML" folder has KML files for visualizing locations in Google Earth if other Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software is not available.  Double-click on the KML file to load data in Google Earth. GIS shapefiles are in the "shapefile" folder.  Web viewer or other dynamic GIS link to pdfs have not been constructed - use spreadsheet for accessing pdf files.
